WOMEN'S CARE
PAP
- The Pap test is
the most effective screening test for cervical cancer and should
be started once a woman is sexually active or by age 21.
- Annual Pap test
up to age 30
- Women with a
history of 3 normal Pap tests in a row may be screened every 2-3
years. However, only your provider can determine your risk
factors and how often you should have a Pap test.
MAMMOGRAM
- Annual
mammograms starting at age 40.
- Women or men
should report any breast change promptly to their health care
providers. Breast self-exam is an option for women starting in
their 20's.
- Women at
increased risk (e.g., family history, genetic tendency) should
talk with their doctors about the benefits and limitations of
starting mammography screening earlier.
- Contact your
practitioner for the following symptoms: a lump, or thickening
in or near the breast or underarm area; change in the size or
shape; nipple discharge or tenderness or inversion; change in
the appearance or feel of the skin such as ridges, pitting,
warm, swollen, red or scaly.
